On Valentine's Day students were introduced to QR Codes and a QR Code Reader in the Media Center at WJMS. Mrs. Huffman explained to the student's coming in what a QR Code is and showed them how to use the computer and web cam to read them. A QR code has embedded information which can be a website, file, picture, etc which a QR Code Reader can decipher. Many good QR Code Readers are free and are available for computers, smartphones and iPads/iPhones. They are being seen more and more - on products purchased, in books, in the window of restaurants (which you can use to pull up the restaurant's menu), in airports (plane schedules) and many other places. In the case of the Media Center, Mrs. Huffman has been placing QR codes on books which will pull up book trailers, scenes from the city or area where the book is set, interactive tours of places like the Sistine Chapel or Paris....things which will help readers get a much better understanding of and background knowledge of the books they are reading. Way to go Mrs. Huffman!
