2015-16 Burke County Public Schools Spelling Bee

    Table Rock Middle School seventh grader Isis B. won the 2015-16 Burke County Public Schools Spelling Bee. The winning words were “megaton” and “howled.” As the winning school, Table Rock reclaims the Lillian Butler Trophy. Anthony B. from W.A. Young Elementary School came in second. In all, 19 students elementary and middle school students competed in the annual bee, which was held Tuesday, Oct. 13 at Patton High School.

    The News Herald is the long-time sponsor of the district spelling bee, which is made up of competitors who win their school-level spelling bees.  News Herald Editor Lisa Wall, BCPS Director of Exceptional Children Debbie Kendall and BCPS Director of Testing David McGee served as judges. Draughn High School teacher Bill Poteat was the word caller.
