2016 BCPS Elementary Science Fair

The 2016 Burke County Public Schools Elementary Science Fair was held Tuesday, Feb. 2 at Burkemont Baptist Church. The school-level winners from the county's 15 elementary schools competed in the district-wide event. First- through fourth-place winners were announced. First place Wyatt B. (Rutherford College) Bottle Rockets; second place Noe J. and Kate S. (Forest Hill) Foody Moody; third place Amy W. (Rutherford College) Got Alligator Skin; (fourth place not available for photo - Tyler I. - George Hildebrand Money Laced with Cocaine). Kim Rudisill, BCPS director of Elementary Education said the judges noted that this year's entries were the best they have seen. She also encouraged the students to keep their science fair entries and expand upon them in middle school. Elementary Instructional Coaches Sarah Temple and Susan Smith announced the award winners and recognized all of the school winners. Superintendent Larry Putnam and Assistant Superintendent David Fonseca handed out the awards and medals. Putnam also encouraged the students to continue their good work into the next level with three more years of science fairs in middle school, and he congratulated parents on regaining their living rooms, for now, as this year's science fair is complete.
