The Burke County Public Schools Finance Department for the second year in a row has received the N.C. State Board of Education Excellence in Financial Reporting Award.  The latest award is for the 2014-15 school year. The N.C. Office of Financial and Business Services Division of School Business issues the award based on school districts’ financial reporting.

Burke County Public Schools Superintendent Larry Putnam said, “Congratulation to Finance Officer Keith Lawson and his staff for their diligence in keeping the school system’s financial affairs in order month after month and year after year.”

Lawson said, “We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful finance department made up of dedicated team members, and I appreciate their hard work.”

The award takes into consideration categories such as zero-out, over and under spending and audit exceptions. Of the total 12 points available to be considered for the award, Burke County Public Schools earned 10 points.
