Continental and Burke County Public Schools announce they have extended their Partners in Education relationship with a $3,000 donation from Continental to the school system. The schools will use the donation for the middle school science fair and will rename the annual event the Continental Science Fair.

This year’s Continental Science Fair is set for Nov. 17 at Patton High School. Continental employees will assist in judging the science fair and help choose a first-, second- and third-place winner in each of the six categories. The categories are Biological A; Biological B; Chemistry; Earth and Environmental Science; Physics and Astronomy; and Technology and Engineering. The sponsorship money will help fund medals for the winners and go toward expenses for first- and second-place winners as they advance to the regional science fair.

Rexanna Lowman, director of CTE and secondary education, explained students’ science fair projects are eligible for the district Continental Science Fair once they have advanced from their individual school’s science fair.

Lowman said, “I am always amazed at our students’ innovative and creative approaches to their science projects. I am confident the Continental judges will be impressed with the high quality of work they will see.”

Burke County Public Schools Superintendent Larry Putnam said, “We appreciate Continental’s willingess to be involved in our school system and to take an interest in our students. Continental has been generous to open its doors for student and staff tours, which allows us the opportunity to see the workforce skills needed for a career at Continental. Continental also has been generous in its donations to help fund our 2014 student trip to Haiti and now in sponsoring our middle school science fair. We are proud to have a partner such as Continental as we continue to ignite learning for a brighter future for our students, workforce and community.”
