 Way to Go!

Peggy Younce, EC Teacher at Draughn High School, has been awarded a $500 grant from the NC Division on Career Development and Transition (NCDCDT) .
The grant is designed to assist with improving transition services for students with special needs.  Ms. Younce plans to use this grant to expand the DHS school-based factory including a faculty only consignment shop, faculty meals, and projects.  She was able to secure a donated refrigerator, a range that only needed the burners replaced, and round tables that may remain in the classroom.  With the additional support of the grant, Ms. Younce and her students will be able to prepare for projects for next school year by purchasing materials such as kitchen/pantry items, fleece for making blankets, and project supplies.  This will not only allow them the ability to make money, but to make the money earned and awarded through the grant grow into larger projects and services for her students and school community.
We congratulate Ms. Younce on being awarded this grant and look forward to showcasing more from her classroom in the fall!

 NLS Hosts Transition Fair

North Liberty School staff hosted a "Transition Fair" for students and families who will be facing upcoming transitions in the home, school, or community setting. Parents were able to preview and talk to service agencies throughout Burke County all in one location and receive information on how to access their resources. Service providers focus on areas such as vocational training, independent living, post secondary options, and career placement. Parents were able to leave the session with a folder full of resources, contact information, and knowledge of options for their student.  Thank you to North Liberty's Principal, Beth Young, and staff for hosting the "Transition Fair" and being proactive in helping students and their family access community resources.
