ESL Teacher Feature

ESL Teacher Feature

Wendy Hammerstone is one of our ESL teachers serving Forest Hill Elementary.  Wendy has taught in Burke County for over 30 years, with most of her years at Forest Hill.  She was in the cohort of the first newly certified English as Second Language teachers in Burke County Public Schools.  She is nationally board certified in English as a New Language.  Wendy has practiced the highest form of teaching by mentoring her colleague, Izabela Pablo-Pedro, from an ESL Teacher Assistant to a certified ESL teacher with a Master's in Teaching English as a Second Language!  Wendy developed fluency in Spanish after attending an immersion language institute in Costa Rica. Mrs. Hammerstone is thus well known and well loved by our linguistically diverse families!  She is married to Gary and enjoys gardening and being the absolutely most fun grandmother ever to twin grandchildren!
