How do I log into the Parent Portal?
The Internet address for the PowerSchool Parent Portal for Burke County Public Schools is https://bcps.powerschool.com/public​
. You must take the signed acceptable use guidelines, and photo identification to one of your child's schools to receive your access ID and password to set up your username and password.

When will Student Access IDs be created for parent logins?
Student Access IDs will be created on or after day 15 of the school year. This timeframe is subject to change.

Who will distribute login information to parents?
Designated school office support staff will distribute login information to  parents who present their signed acceptable use guidelines and photo identification. 

I do not have an access ID or password.  How do I get these?
An access ID and password is needed to set up a username and password for the Parent Portal.  You must sign the acceptable use guidelines and take photo identification to your child's school to receive your access ID and password. If you have more than one child in BCPS, then you only need to visit one of your student's schools to get this information.

Can parent login information be distributed at one school location if they have students enrolled in different schools in the district?
Yes.  Any school in which a parent has students enrolled can be visited to obtain login information. 

Who is ultimately responsible for student attendance?

The classroom teacher.  State law mandates (via the School Attendance and Student Accounting Manual) that it is the duty of the teacher:

"To ascertain the cause of non-attendance and thus determine when an absence is lawful (G.S. 115C-379)…” 
“To record absences and absence reason codes accurately to ensure implementation of the Ten Day Rule… "
"To maintain accurate student accounting records; (Attendance records shall be kept for each day of the school year)." 
Penalty for Law Violation: Any parent, guardian, or other person violating the provisions of the Compulsory Attendance Law is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor. (G.S. 115C-380

How can a teacher help to promote use of the PowerSchool Parent Portal?
Teachers should use every face-to-face opportunity with parents/guardians, as well as e-mail communications, progress reports, etc.

Will the Parent Portal replace the need for parent/teacher conferences?
No. It is still important to meet with your child’s teachers. 

Can someone else gain access or change my information?
No. Each family will receive a unique username and password.  Please protect your information by not sharing this confidential information with others.

My username and password are not working.  What should I do?
If you have forgotten your username or password, click the "Having Trouble Signing In?" link, then click the Forgot Password or Forgot Username tab and enter the appropriate information.  If you do not know your email address, contact the data manager at one of your children's schools and they can assist you with resetting your information.

How do I log off the Parent Portal when I am finished?
Please click on the "Sign Out" link in the upper right corner of your window.  Then, please close your browser.  This is an important step.  Leaving yourself logged into the Parent Portal may allow others to access confidential information. 

Will I be able to print out the information I see on the screen?
Yes.  You may print the pages you see on the screen by using the printer icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. It is located in the blue bar, just below the Sign Out link.     

What do I do if information in the Portal is incorrect?
Contact your child’s teacher to discuss specific grades you believe are inaccurate. Contact the data manager if you believe other information may be incorrect. 

Does it cost anything to use the Parent Portal?
No.  There is no cost involved using the Parent Portal.  You will need a computer with Internet access in order to use this service.  If you do not have Internet access at home, computers are available in the public libraries or at the schools.

When can I access the Parent Portal?
Normally, the Parent Portal will be available 24 hours 7 days a week.  However, once a month, PowerSchool site for student information that feeds information to the Parent Portal is not available due to routine maintenance.  At these times, Parent Portal will also be unavailable.  These dates are posted under the Maintenance button on this site.

When I am viewing my student's grades, these are listed in numerical format. What is the grading scale for BCPS?
A = 93-100
B = 85-92
C = 77-84
D = 70-76
F = Below 70
