Local Doctor Offices are reporting an increase in illnesses – both Norovirus and Strep throat.
Norovirus is commonly known as stomach flu. People may experience diarrhea, throwing up, nausea, and stomach cramping, chills, fever, headache, muscle cramping, and fatigue. It is not serious and people usually feel better in 1-2 days. It is important to prevent dehydration.
Strep throat is a bacterial infection of the throat. Symptoms begin suddenly and include: fever, sore throat, headache, nausea, and difficulty swallowing. Your child’s doctor can diagnose strep throat provide the necessary treatment to prevent complications.
Both Norovirus and Strep throat spread quickly from person to person in crowded places such as school classrooms. If your child has vomiting, diarrhea, or a fever over 100 degrees please allow them to rest at home.
The best way to prevent sharing germs is good frequent hand washing and cleansing contaminated surfaces!
