 Facts About MathCounts

MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment, coaching, and competition program administered by the MATHCOUNTS Foundation.  The mission of MATHCOUNTS is to increase student enthusiasm and achievement in mathematics.  The curriculum is aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards and is presented to students within 300 creative and challenging real-world problems.  At WJMS, students work on these problems individually and in small groups under the supervision of teacher/coaches in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.   MATHCOUNTS begins in October meeting two afternoons each week.  Students compete in December to become members of the four person Competition Team and the six person Alternate Team. The students will then compete in a regional competition. If the team succeeds in the regional competition, they then move on to the State competition. The National competition then follows.
