Billie Strickland, 4th grade teacher at W. A. Young Elementary, received the 2011 Burke County United Way reward for Campaign Coordinator of the Year. To raise money for United Way Mrs. Strickland had each grade level create a scarecrow with money counting as the votes and further enticed participation by getting the principal to agree to kiss a pig at the fall festival when they met their goal.
