What is Concurrent Enrollment?
"Qualified high school students have been permitted to enroll in curriculum or continuing education, except for adult basic skills, for many years through the concurrent enrollment policy of the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges (NCSBCC)."*
SPECIAL NOTE: Only STEM courses (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math courses) are available with tuition waiver.
Stipulations for Concurrent Enrollment courses:

Concurrent Enrollment courses are scheduled for the primary purpose of enrolling adult college students. High school students may be admitted any semester on a space available basis.

Enrollment of high school students in any section cannot displace adult college students.

The student must be at least 16 years of age.

Students must meet the same prerequisite, co-requisite, and course admission requirements as adult college students, including appropriate scores on the college placement test for those courses that require it..

Students must be recommended by the principal of the high school for enrollment in Concurrent Enrollment courses as well as the appropriate community college personnel.

The student's principal must certify that the students is taking the equivalent of one-half of a full-time schedule and is making progress toward graduation. If the course is offered in the summer, the student's principal must certify that the student took the equivalent of one-half of a full-time schedule during the preceding year and is making appropriate progress toward graduation.

College tuition is waived.

Students are responsibility for the cost of the textbook, college student fees (normally less than $20 per semester), and any supplies for the Concurrent Enrollment course(s).

Huskins students will follow the calendar determined by the provider of the course(s). This calendar may vary from Burke County Public Schools' calendar.

Courses must be curriculum courses, numbered 100 and above in the Combined Course Library.

Courses with the following prefixes may not be offered as Concurrent Enrollment:

Developmental courses shall not be offered to concurrently enrolled students.

College credit shall be awarded to high school students upon successful completion of courses. The student is beginning his/her college transcript.

Concurrently enrolled students must abide by the college's disability eligibility standards for the college.

If high school students meet the curriculum program admission requirements set forth by the local community college and successfully complete the program; they may be awarded a certificate, diploma, or degree.

Per the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA), upon admission to another public two-year institution or to a public university, a community college student, who has enrolled in a community college course and who satisfactorily completed the course with a grade of "C" or better in the courses that are designated for college transfer, will receive credit for those courses. The receiving institution will determine whether the course will count as general education, major, or elective credit.
