Please note that Burke County Public Schools has determined that End-of-Course Exam (EOC) courses and English courses may not be taken for the first time during the Online Summer Academy. Please review the guidelines for our Online Summer Academy below.
To be selected to take one of these courses, please follow these guidelines:
You must be a rising Freshman, rising Sophomore, rising Junior, or rising Senior.
You must complete the Online Summer Application forms (located below) and submit to your school’s E-Learning Advisor (a list is located at http://www.burke.k12.nc.us/onlinelearning/dlas.htm) preferably by Friday, April 27th, 2011. However, applications will continue to be accepted through Friday, June 8th. The sooner you submit your application, the better chance you have to get into the particular course(s) that you wish to take.
You must be able to attend your appointed work session time (8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) with the summer E-Learning Advisor (ELA) at least once a week, and more if it is deemed necessary by the DLA to ensure your success in this course. The sessions will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The DLA will determine your session time and determine if more than two sessions are necessary for your success in this online course. These sessions will be held at Patton High School.
Tuition is $250 per course. (Out of county student tuition is $300.) Tuition must be submitted with the application to enable the ELA to register a student for a course.
No more than two courses may be taken during the summer session.
Textbooks will be provided by Burke County Public Schools.
It is highly recommended that you have Internet access away from school.
It is highly recommended that if you have not had an online course, Success 101 would be a great elective course for you to begin your online adventure.
You will earn one high school credit and this credit will count in GPA and rank.
NCVPS/APEX estimates that each course requires a commitment of 4 (four) hours per day, five days a week.
A minimum number of students must participate to offer this online learning opportunity.
NOTE: Middle school students (including rising ninth graders) may take Science, Social Studies, Math, and Foreign Language courses only.
