Introduction

 

 

Did you enjoy reading Bridge to Terabithia?  Now that you have finished reading this wonderful book about a special friendship between Jesse Aarons and Leslie Burke, why don’t you explore other ideas  found in the story? How about the story’s setting? Could you plan a vacation to Virginia?  One of the main characters was a girl. Did you know that an Olympic athlete who wore a leg brace during her childhood won three gold medals in track and field?  Through this web quest, you will learn more about Katherine Paterson, famous American women, friendship, and the state of Virginia.

 

 

Tasks

 

 

    1.  Use online resources to find fun things to do and see in

         Virginia.

 

2.      Write a Bio-Poem about the book’s author, Katherine

 Paterson.

 

3.      Celebrate friendship by creating a card for a special friend. 

 

    4.   Choose a famous American woman. Research her life and

 create a PowerPoint show

          about her.

1.         The setting of the story is Virginia.  Have you ever visited Virginia? How much do you know about this state?  Use online resources to learn more about things to see and do in Virginia.  Then, complete the activity about our neighboring state.

2.         Have you read any other books by author Katherine Paterson?  Visit Terabithia online to learn more about the book’s author and share what you have learned by completing a Bio Poem about Katherine Paterson. Take a look at a Bio Poem about Abraham Lincoln.

 

3.         Jess and Leslie were friends in Bridge to Terabithia.   Do you know August 4 is International Friendship Day?  Learn more about International Friendship Day by visiting The Friendship Page

 

          Think about some of your friends.  Choose a friend and  

          let him or her know how special he or she is by creating a

4.          Leslie was the fastest runner in 5th grade.  Everyone felt this

       was quite an accomplishment for a girl.  Many women have

          made amazing accomplishments that have brought them

          fame.  Choose a woman you would like to research from the

          following list.  Using online resources locate information about

          a famous woman. Print out the information sheet to help.

         

 

           PowerPoint Show

       

        Use the information you found to create a PowerPoint presentation on the  

        famous American woman you chose. Be sure to include a picture on the title

        slide and background slide. The PowerPoint will include the following:

 

                   *Title slide with picture      

                   *Background slide with four facts and a picture

                   *Achievements slide with four facts

                   *Resources slide

 

 

        

        Check over your presentation for spelling, capitalization,      

        punctuation and grammar. Also make sure you have included

        information on background and achievements of the person.

EVALUATION

 

Your partnership will be responsible for completing each of the four tasks.  Your grade for the entire project will be based on neatness, completeness, cooperation, and time on task.  Each partner should contribute his/her equal share to the entire project.

 

 

CONCLUSION

 

After completing each of the four tasks you have learned more about the Newbery award-winning author, Katherine Paterson. Are you interested in reading more of her books?  Could you plan a vacation in Virginia?  Where might you visit?  Did you learn more about contributions women have made to our society?
