The N.C. Wildlife Commission helps sponsor the archery program in schools to teach students outdoor skills and activities. Archery is available as a national school program for primary and secondary schools and is open to boys and girls. Recognized as an Olympic sport, archery provides an alternative to traditional sports, giving students who may not be athletic in other sports the opportunity to shine in a sport that relies heavily on hand-eye coordination.

Burke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Putnam said, “I am so proud of these archers and our archery program. Our elementary school archery program put Burke County on the map on the regional, state, national and world stage because of awesome students who continue to compete and represent us so well and bring home all of these trophies. And now we are proud to offer archery at the middle school level to continue the tradition. I want to commend our students for their dedication to this sport and say a big thank you to our coaches and parents for their hard work and support of this program.”
