Morganton, NC – Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019 Burke County Public Schools was recently recognized as a National Board Accomplished District by The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

The district was recognized along with 80 other school districts in ten different states due to having greater than 20% of teachers who have achieved National Board certification.

Peggy Brookins, a National Board Certified Teacher and the president and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards said, “High-quality teaching is the most important in-school factor impacting student learning. The districts that measured up to be included in the National Board Accomplished District program understand the value of accomplished teaching and support teachers to be their best. We encourage state and district leaders to support National Board certification because NBCTs have a measurable impact on student learning – and what parent anywhere doesn’t want the best possible teacher for their children?”

Each district that was recognized will receive an award and unique celebrations for the National Board-Certified Teachers in those districts.

Dr. Larry Putnam, superintendent of Burke County Public Schools said, “We can’t be more proud of our teachers who have gone above and beyond to serve our students. The teachers who have achieved their National Board Certification are truly committed to growing not only in their profession, but their peers and their students. We are thankful to receive this recognition and hope our teachers continue to strive for excellence.”
