Archery teams, students compete in state, qualify for nationals

Burke County Public Schools archers made a great showing at the 2023 NC State NASP Bullseye Tournament in Winston-Salem Feb. 17 and 18, with teams and individuals qualifying for Nationals. East Burke High, East Burke Middle, George Hildebrand Elementary and Icard Elementary teams qualified for Nationals as did students who scored in the top 10 of their division. Nationals will be held in Kentucky May 11 - 13. Individual qualifiers are:

    Carter Seagle (ranked 3rd male)
    Carley Mace (ranked 5th female)
    Emily Shoemaker (ranked 8th female)
  • Elementary School
    Icard
    Miles Seagle (ranked 4th male)
    Desirae Lipscomb (ranked 5th female) 
    Zoey Taylor (ranked 6th female)
    George Hildebrand
    Jocelyn Anderson  (ranked 4th female) 
    Noah Thomas (ranked 8th male)
Finishing in the top-10 in state were the school teams of George Hildebrand (3rd), Icard (5th), Drexel (8th) and Salem (9th) in elementary; East Burke (3rd) and Table Rock (10th) in middle; and East Burke (2nd) in high. 
 
Burke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Swan said, “I have enjoyed watching our archery teams and students grow and improve over the years. What was once an up-and-coming sport for us is now well established, and we owe that to our dedicated coaches, archers and parents. Congratulations to all of our students who competed in state, and to those who punched their tickets to nationals, I wish you well. We know you will represent BCPS proudly.”
