No. 13 in best teachers and No. 14 in best place to teach

Morganton, NC – Friday, Aug. 16, 2019

A national website that researches schools ranks Burke County Public Schools 22nd overall and tied for third compared to districts its size on a list of the best school districts in North Carolina. The site, Niche.com, released its new 2020 Best Schools rankings earlier this month. On its list, Burke County Public Schools is the 13th best district for teachers, the 14th best place to teach and the 15th safest district in North Carolina out of 115 school districts.

Burke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Putnam said, “Being ranked in the top 20 percent in the state overall and in the top five among other districts our size is something to be proud of, but I’m competitive and our district is competitive, and we want to be No. 1. We are proud of our teachers and disagree with this ranking as we know we have the best teachers in the state. As we begin our third year of our District Strategic Plan, I am reminded that the biggest reason for our high rankings is because we have committed teachers. Having dedicated people and a passionate board of education solidifies our success for students. The excitement as we look ahead to the next few years in Burke County Public Schools is contagious as together we will continue to find new and innovative ways to better serve our students and the community.”

Niche.com gives Burke County Public Schools an A in teachers and diversity and Bs in health and safety, academics, clubs and activities, administration, food, college prep, sports and resources and facilities. Reviewers on Niche.com praised Burke County Public Schools’ teachers and administrators, saying they are nice and knowledgeable, show an interest in helping students learn, are nurturing and encourage families to get involved in their children’s educations.
