April 20 - 24

From our school nurses:

Next week is Every Kid Healthy Week!!  We miss seeing your smiling faces at school, so we hope you will join us in this week of fun and post your photos of you and your family joining in on our daily events.  Each day of the week next week, we will be doing a new activity that will be fun for the whole family to get involved in. There are also more resources and events that you can join in on at everykidhealthyweek.org.  Be sure and follow the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/act4healthykids/events/ so you don’t miss the daily events they will be hosting.

Send in your daily photos to studentphotos@burke.k12.nc.us to be shared on the Burke County page showing how you are celebrating each day.

Monday - Mindful Monday https://www.facebook.com/events/2882829035135648/

Help your kids to practice mindfulness and talk about how they are feeling.  This is a tough time for kids, so emotions are high and they may not understand everything that is going on right now.  You can also try out these ideas:

Tuesday - Tasty Tuesday https://www.facebook.com/events/2414795088745437/

Encourage kids to practice healthy eating and making good choices.  There are lots of fun activities that you can do with your kids to help them make good food choices.  While we can’t all go to the grocery store right now and go shopping, have them help you make out the grocery list.  If you do online shopping, have them help you pick out a new fruit or vegetable that you want to try find a fun recipe that you can make together with it.

Wednesday - Earth Day Wellness Wednesday https://www.facebook.com/events/571783673695882/ Encourage kids to get outside.  We all have an increase of screen time right now with online school and no sports and activities going on.  Kids need to get outside daily and run and play.

Thursday - Thoughtful Thursday https://www.facebook.com/events/613252729230548/

Talk with your kids about what they are grateful for.  Make a grateful tree and share your photos.

Friday - Fitness Friday https://www.facebook.com/events/2591500084406212/

Get up and get moving.  The best way to beat stress is to be active and physical.  Go for a walk as a family. Take a hike - remember your social distancing guidelines with the site you pick to hike.  Make a sidewalk/driveway activity course with chalk. Do an exercise video as a family.

We can’t wait to see all the fun photos that you send us of your family celebrating Healthy Kid week.  We love you and miss you and can’t wait to see you again!
