Students awarded at science fair, competing at regionals

Several Burke County Public Schools students were awarded at this year’s Continental Science Fair at Liberty Middle School on Nov. 21.

The following students’ projects were selected to advance to the regional science fair at Appalachian State University on Dec. 17.

In the Biological Science A category, Avery Lindecamp from Walter Johnson Middle School was awarded second place for the project entitled “Dog Toys: What Makes One a Favorite or Flop for Fido.” Kaleb Pearson from Table Rock Middle School was awarded first place for the project entitled “5 Second Rule: Fact of Fiction?”

In the Biological Science B category, Stormi Willis from East Burke Middle School was awarded third place for the project entitled “Shop ‘til you Drop the Beat.” Isabella Denton and Gracelyn Henson from Liberty Middle School were awarded second place for the project entitled “How Does Testing Affect Your Blood Pressure?” Callie Stinson from Heritage Middle School was awarded first place for the project entitled “Taste the Rainbow?”

In the Chemistry category, Felecia Willis from East Burke Middle School was awarded third place for the project entitled “Splitting Water.” Piper Chapman from East Burke Middle School were awarded second place for the project entitled “Solar Art … Fun in the Sun.” Dalton Buff from Liberty Middle School was awarded first place for the project entitled “What Happens When You Change.”

In the Earth Science category, Isabella DeCato, Kyra Crain and Cadence Willis from East Burke Middle School were awarded second place for the project entitled “Watching Nuclear Particles.” Bryant Arrowood from Table Rock Middle School was awarded first place for the project entitled “Algae Blasters: A Study of the Effects of Various Chemicals on Pool Water.”

In the Physics category, Aiden Cline and Sebastian Wellman from Walter Johnson Middle School was awarded third place for the project entitled “Copper Plating.” Jacob Miller from Heritage Middle School were awarded second place for the project entitled “Batteries that Make Cents.” Shelby Brittain from East Burke Middle School was awarded first place for the project entitled “In the Heat of the Light.” Dakota Strohl, Zoie Sharpe and Graycie Carswell from Liberty Middle School were also awarded first place for the project entitled “Electrochemical.”
