Jamie Norton has been named the curriculum instructional management coordinator of the year for the Northwest Regional Educational Service Alliance. Norton is the Career and Technical Education (CTE) coordinator, career development instructional management coordinator and internship coordinator for Burke County Public Schools. Her duties include overseeing instruction, curriculum and assessment for CTE. In addition, Norton also oversees work-based learning, helping place students in internship positions and networking with business and industry. Each state educational region names a coordinator of the year, and the next step for Norton is an interview process as she is now qualified for the honor at the state level.

Burke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Putnam said, “Congratulations to Jamie Norton on receiving this regional honor. She does a fabulous job coordinating so many of our CTE efforts, developing relationships with students and business and industry, overseeing certifications and overall career development efforts. We are proud of Mrs. Norton and our CTE department.”

CTE provides students with academic and technical skills and knowledge and training to be workforce ready. CTE pathways Burke County Public Schools offers include agriculture, firefighting, business, nursing, foods and engineering.

Norton has worked for Burke County Public Schools for since 1999. A business and marketing major from Appalachian State University, she started her teaching career as a CTE teacher at East Burke High School. She also has been assigned to Draughn High School and has spent the last six years as a coordinator. She has her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from N.C. State University.
