Mountain View Elementary School will soon be accepting applications for the Global Immersion Academy for the 2021-2022 school year. The academy is available for students entering kindergarten.  Students will be selected on a first come, first served basis. Students with siblings currently in the program will be given priority in the selection process. Priority will also be given to students that reside in Burke County. For the success of Dual-language programs, the Global Immersion Academy will consist of 50% of native Spanish speakers, and 50% of native English speakers. The application window will be February 25th - April 1st. If a student is not selected, he/she will be placed on a waiting list. For applications received after April 1st, 2021, students will be placed on the waiting list in the order received.

All students must enroll at the school in their home district in addition to completing this application. Regardless of admittance into the program, every child will be required to enroll in their home school district. All students admitted to the program must meet Kindergarten eligibility requirements.

In this video about the Global Immersion Academy at Mountain View Elementary School, principals, teachers and parents talk about how the program teaches students English and Spanish starting in kindergarten. The goals of the program are biliteracy, bilingualism, grade level academic achievement and cross cultural competence. Students in the Global Immersion Academy are taught the standard course of study in both English and Spanish and learn content while learning the two languages. The students spend 50 percent of their day in an all-English classroom and 50 percent of their day in an all-Spanish classroom.
