Alternative school to be relocated as a school within a school

Burke County Public Schools will relocate Hallyburton Academy to a dedicated wing inside Draughn High School beginning with the 2026–2027 academic year.

The relocation will serve approximately 30 Hallyburton students. Both schools will retain separate identities, including principals, school colors, mascots, bell schedules, and graduation ceremonies. The change involves location only and does not merge the two programs.

The new location is approximately five miles from Hallyburton Academy’s current site.

Students enrolled at Hallyburton Academy will have access to additional certified teachers across subject areas, expanded course offerings and credit recovery options. The facility includes updated safety infrastructure and on-site School Resource Officer support.

Hallyburton Academy will operate within a secured, dedicated wing at Draughn High School.

Draughn High School’s academic structure and daily operations will remain unchanged.

District staff will continue to finalize logistical details. Additional information will be provided to families, students and staff prior to the August 2026 transition.
