Two Burke County Public Schools Board of Education members have been selected to participate in the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Policy Leadership Cohort. Tiana Beachler, board chair, and Jamey Wycoff, vice chair, will work with education leaders from across the country to learn more about policies, strategies and programs regarding educator recruitment and retention.
NSBA is the national organization that represents school boards across North America. The policy leadership cohort offers school board members an opportunity to delve into a focus area to develop policy solutions for school districts. With a focus on educator recruitment and retention, Beachler and Wycoff will learn about strategic workforce planning, teacher leadership pathways and more.
Jamey Wycoff said, “This exciting leadership opportunity will strengthen my understanding of education policy and help me explore new ideas and strategies to recruit and retain educators in Burke County. I am very blessed and grateful that I was selected to participate.”
Tiana Beachler said, “It is a true privilege to be representing Burke County on a national level. We’re excited for the valuable knowledge we will gain through this program and the advantages it will bring to our teachers, district and community.”
The six-month cohort begins this August. Along with policy labs, peer working groups and advocacy coaching, the program includes a final capstone project that can be used at the district and will be presented in early 2027 in Washington, D.C., at the NSBA Advocacy Institute.
